Network Setup
Ensure your SimVS devices are connected to a WiFi network before installation.
Network Setup
Before installing the SimVS app, ensure your devices have network access. The specific requirements depend on which connection mode you plan to use.
Key Requirement
For Server Mode (recommended), each device just needs internet access — they do not need to be on the same network. For Router Mode, all devices must be on the same local network.
Connection Modes & Network Requirements
| Option | Network Requirement | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Server Mode (recommended) | Each device needs internet access (any network) | Institutional WiFi, most setups |
| Router Mode (alternative) | All devices on the same local network (no internet needed) | Offline environments, no WiFi available |
Server Mode (Recommended)
With Server Mode, devices connect through the SimVS cloud server. Each tablet simply needs an internet connection — they can be on different WiFi networks. This is the easiest and most flexible setup.
- Standard institutional WiFi networks (e.g., campus WiFi) work well
- Devices can be on separate networks (e.g., instructor on one network, students on another)
Router Mode (Alternative)
If internet access is not available in the simulation lab, SimVS can operate using Router Mode. In this mode, devices communicate directly over the local network.
- All instructor and student tablets must be on the same local network
- Internet access is not required
See Device Pairing for setup instructions for both modes.
Next Step
Once your devices have network access, proceed to App Installation.
